I'm trying to plan an elk hunt within the next couple years, but Google just makes me more and more confused each time I search for outfitters and locations. I need some help narrowing things down. I'm a teacher by day and taxidermist on nights, weekends, holidays, and in my sleep....so time off is extremely limited. I basically get to take one week off at one time in my teaching career. I need to hit the mark on this hunt because this is probably a once in a lifetime trip for me. For those reasons, I'm looking at a rifle hunt on private land. I'd rather not fight other hunters on public land and I don't have the opportunity to hunt self guided and get to know the animals or a specific area. Having a crack at a mule deer would be a bonus, but not a necessity.
Cheap usually doesn't mean good, and good doesn't mean cheap. I'm willing to pay for a quality hunt, but I'll have bribe my wife by taking her on a just as expensive trip as this....so I do have a middle of the road budget. Thanks for any and all help. Corey
Hi Corey, look into applying for a Pa elk tag.
I have not applied for any preference points or anything else. I seem to be finding lots of hidden costs as I look into outfitters and different states. Thanks for your help.
Hey Corey,
Have you established any preference or bonus points anywhere? Are you thinking a landowner/ranch tag? I will share this to our FB page and multiple elk groups on FB and see what everyone has to say.
Thanks,
Matt
